Community Rally: Owasso's Pinewood Derby for Charity

A thrilling racing event is set to take place in Owasso, bringing together enthusiasts of all ages while contributing to a meaningful cause. Friendship Baptist Church invites everyone to join the Pinewood Derby on May 31st, where participants can showcase their handmade cars and support missionary efforts in South Africa.
This unique event not only promises excitement but also offers opportunities for community bonding and charitable giving. With awards for speed and design, as well as challenge races for added fun, it’s an occasion that combines competition with compassion.
Racing Fun for Everyone
The Pinewood Derby will feature various categories open to Scouts, AWANA members, and independent racers alike. Cars from any year are eligible, provided they adhere to standard size and weight limits. Entry fees vary depending on the number of cars entered, with discounts available for families and groups who register multiple vehicles.
Participants registering by May 28th will enjoy complimentary meal tickets featuring BBQ sandwiches, chips, and drinks. Moreover, pre-race test sessions will be held on May 29th and 30th, allowing competitors to optimize their cars’ performance. These trial runs come at an affordable cost of $10 for four attempts, ensuring every racer has ample opportunity to prepare for success.
Charity and Community Spirit
Beyond the thrill of competition, the Pinewood Derby aims to make a difference. Proceeds raised during the event will benefit The Grahams, missionaries working tirelessly in South Africa through the Children’s Resiliency Project. This initiative focuses on empowering youth within vulnerable communities, fostering resilience and hope.
In addition to supporting this vital mission, the derby includes several attractions such as concessions selling meals priced at $6 per ticket and trophies awarded for top performances in both speed and creativity. Racers may also engage in friendly challenges against friends or family members for an additional fee of $20 per race. Through these activities, the day becomes more than just a race—it transforms into a celebration of camaraderie and generosity.
