Recent sightings in China have revealed a new Yangwang model undergoing testing, internally referred to as "HU" by BYD. This prototype hints at a design ethos reminiscent of the Rolls-Royce Phantom, notably incorporating rear-hinged coach doors—a first for BYD vehicles. Hu Xiaoqing, Yangwang's general manager, has shared initial images, confirming the vehicle's development as an ultra-luxury executive sedan resulting from three years of dedicated research and development.
Solid-State Battery Breakthrough: Powering Yangwang's Flagship Sedan
According to Chinese automotive reports, this executive-class electric sedan will be the first BYD vehicle to utilize solid-state battery technology. While specific details remain under wraps, Yangwang's executive general manager, Zheng Yu, assures that the new model will feature "unprecedented disruptive technology." An image also suggests the vehicle's compatibility with megawatt fast charging, indicating high-performance capabilities.
BYD's Leadership in Solid-State Battery Development and Commercialization
Stella Li, BYD's executive vice president, recently affirmed the company's leading position in solid-state battery technology and its path to commercialization. BYD plans to introduce its first vehicle equipped with solid-state batteries in 2027. The company's battery division, FinDreams, is focused on producing sulfide-based all-solid-state batteries, with limited batch production slated for 2027 and mass production targeting 2030.
Performance and Pricing: Yangwang's High-End Market Ambitions
Measuring approximately 5.5 meters, comparable to the Mercedes-Benz Maybach S-Class, the new Yangwang sedan is expected to deliver over 1,000 horsepower through its quad-motor e4 platform. While official pricing and detailed specifications are yet to be announced, estimates suggest a price tag exceeding 2 million yuan (nearly $300,000). This positions it significantly above the existing Yangwang U7 luxury sedan, which starts at 658,000 yuan ($98,000). The official debut is anticipated in October, promising more insights into this groundbreaking vehicle.
