BYD's Flagship Electric SUV Achieves Three Consecutive Months of Over 10,000 Sales

BYD's premium electric SUV, the Great Tang, has recently achieved a significant milestone, consistently exceeding 10,000 monthly sales for three successive months since its market introduction. This remarkable sales performance underscores its strong initial reception and growing consumer interest in the electric vehicle sector.
BYD's Great Tang: A Triumph in the Electric SUV Market
The Great Tang, BYD's top-tier D-segment SUV in the esteemed Dynasty series, has firmly established its presence in the automotive world. Following its debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April, the luxury electric vehicle garnered an astonishing 30,000 pre-orders within its first 24 hours, quickly escalating to over 100,000 in just two weeks. By its official launch in China in mid-June, the Great Tang had amassed an impressive 150,000 pre-orders, setting a new benchmark for BYD vehicles. In September, an additional 13,010 units were sold, bringing its total sales to 40,222 since launch.
This pioneering SUV is hailed for its "29 world firsts," including a pure electric driving range extending up to 950 kilometers and introducing China's first 2+2+3 seven-seat configuration. Available in both pure electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models, the Great Tang utilizes BYD’s advanced second-generation Blade Batteries. The base Premium EV model, priced at 239,900 yuan (approximately $35,500), features a 105.79 kWh battery. The Flagship EV trim, with a larger 130.15 kWh battery, offers an extended CLTC range of up to 950 km and starts at 269,900 yuan (around $40,000).
Equipped with a 1,000V architecture and BYD's innovative Flash Charging technology, the Great Tang can rapidly recharge from 10% to 70% in merely five minutes, and from 10% to 97% in just nine minutes. This full-size SUV measures an impressive 5,263 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,800 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,130 mm, making it larger than contemporaries like the Hyundai IONIQ 9 and Kia EV9, and comparable to the Li Auto L9. Following its successful launch in China, BYD's executive vice president, Stella Li, confirmed plans for the Great Tang to enter European and other international markets by late 2026 or early 2027.
The consistent sales performance of BYD's Great Tang not only highlights the growing demand for electric SUVs but also solidifies BYD's position as a formidable innovator in the global EV landscape. Its blend of luxury, advanced technology, and impressive range sets a high bar for competitors and offers consumers a compelling option in the evolving electric vehicle market. The anticipated expansion into international markets signifies BYD's ambition to become a global leader in sustainable transportation, promising an exciting future for electric mobility worldwide.
