Aprilia racer and championship hopeful, Marco Bezzecchi, has revealed his uncertainty regarding his fitness levels as he prepares for a potential return to MotoGP competition at the British Grand Prix. He acknowledges that he is not yet in peak physical condition.

Bezzecchi sustained a broken collarbone during the opening lap of the Sachsenring sprint race in July, which sidelined him for the remainder of the German Grand Prix weekend. Subsequently, he underwent surgery on both his shoulder and knee during the summer hiatus, necessitating an extensive recovery period. It was only recently that he was able to ride a production motorcycle, and his participation in the Silverstone race is contingent upon him passing a medical examination scheduled for Friday.

During the official pre-event press conference for the British Grand Prix, held in London as part of a promotional event, the Italian rider provided an update on his physical state. He confessed, "I don't feel too bad, but it has been a challenging summer break, not what I had hoped for. I'm still not entirely fit. My shoulder feels acceptable, but my left knee also sustained an injury. We will assess the situation." He added, "I'm delighted to be here, so we'll see how it feels on the bike tomorrow." Describing his rehabilitation, he stated, "Throughout the summer break, I made every effort to recover optimally, consistently training in the gym. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to ride a motorcycle one day before arriving here, which was a much more fulfilling experience than gym workouts."

Last year, Bezzecchi secured his maiden victory as an Aprilia rider at the Silverstone circuit, capitalizing on a technical issue experienced by polesitter Fabio Quartararo to outperform Johann Zarco and Marc Marquez. However, when questioned about his prospects of replicating that triumph this year, the 27-year-old expressed pessimism, saying, "Unfortunately, the chances are not very high at the moment." He continued, "This track holds a special place for me; I truly enjoy its layout, and last year, I had a fantastic race and weekend. But this year, given the circumstances, my approach is different. I'm not overly focused on performance. My priority is simply to ride the bike and gauge how I feel. I will only have a clear answer to this question tomorrow." Bezzecchi had emerged as a championship favorite after clinching three consecutive grand prix victories to start the 2026 season. However, his title challenge suffered a significant setback due to a series of incidents over the past two months, including a multi-bike collision initiated by Jorge Martin in Hungary and an altercation with a marshal that resulted in his disqualification from the Czech GP. Having failed to score points in the last four Sunday races, he has fallen from first to fourth in the championship standings, now trailing his championship-leading teammate, Martin, by 22 points.

He remarked, "It's undeniable that it won't be easy, especially at this juncture. Nevertheless, I will strive my utmost to contend until the very end. We will then ascertain if I remain in the championship fight as the final rounds approach. This will undoubtedly provide additional motivation to compete with the frontrunners." He concluded, "While it's true that we're already halfway through the championship, 'halfway' also implies there's still a considerable journey ahead. Therefore, let's aim for a respectable comeback here at Silverstone, and then I'll have more time to fine-tune my physical condition. From Aragon onwards, it will certainly be a fierce battle."
