2027 Subaru Outback Base Trim Returns, Lowering Price

Subaru is making the 2027 Outback more affordable, bringing back a base trim that starts at a lower price point than its 2026 predecessor. This new entry-level model, priced at $34,540 including destination, comes equipped with an impressive suite of standard features, such as a 12.1-inch touchscreen and Subaru's signature all-wheel-drive system.
The reintroduction of a dedicated entry-level variant for the 2027 Outback marks a significant shift in Subaru's pricing strategy, resulting in a nearly $2,000 reduction compared to the previous year's starting price. All 2027 Outback models, from the base up, are powered by a 2.5-liter Boxer four-cylinder engine producing 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. Notably, the base trim boasts features typically found in higher-end models, including heated front seats, heated side mirrors, a power tailgate, 18-inch alloy wheels, and an 8.7-inch ground clearance, alongside Subaru's EyeSight system and DriverFocus monitoring. The cabin technology also remains robust, with a 12.1-inch touchscreen supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
As you move up the trim levels, the main differentiators for the Premium trim, priced at $36,540, largely involve interior upholstery, upgrading to StarTex synthetic leather from cloth seats. Higher trims like the Limited ($41,540) and Touring ($45,040) introduce more luxurious appointments. For those seeking enhanced performance, the Limited XT and Touring XT offer a turbocharged 2.5-liter flat-four engine generating 260 horsepower, starting at $45,140 and $48,140, respectively. Cargo capacity remains consistent across the lineup, providing 34.6 cubic feet with the rear seats up and 80.5 cubic feet when folded flat. Specific Wilderness models and turbocharged variants are capable of towing up to 3,500 pounds, while other trims can handle 2,700 pounds. Optional premium paint colors add a nominal cost.
This initiative by Subaru to provide a more accessible yet well-equipped base model for the 2027 Outback demonstrates a commitment to value and a wider customer base. By offering desirable features as standard even at the entry level, Subaru reinforces its dedication to safety, performance, and modern technology, ensuring that more drivers can experience the quality and capability synonymous with the brand.
