2027 Hyundai Elantra Unveiled with Striking New Design and Enhanced Features

Hyundai has officially revealed the 2027 Elantra, known as the Avante in its South Korean domestic market. This latest generation of the compact sedan represents a dramatic departure from its predecessor, featuring a completely reimagined aesthetic for both its exterior and interior. The new model is significantly larger, offering increased length, width, and an extended wheelbase, which translates into a more commodious cabin environment akin to that of a midsize vehicle. Complementing its fresh look are updated powertrains, including a more robust 2.0-liter gasoline engine and an advanced 1.6-liter hybrid system, alongside the integration of Hyundai's cutting-edge Pleos infotainment technology. This redesign underscores Hyundai's commitment to bold styling and technological innovation within the competitive sedan segment.
A Transformed Exterior: Bold Design and Increased Dimensions
The 2027 Hyundai Elantra makes a striking visual statement with its new design, embracing what the manufacturer terms the "Art of Steel" philosophy. This translates into a sculpted body featuring sharp angles and defined contours that evoke a modern and aggressive stance. Distinctive "H" shaped lighting elements are integrated into both the front and rear, giving the car a unique signature. The model also sports pronounced flared wheel arches and sleek flush door handles, contributing to its sophisticated yet athletic appearance. Furthermore, 18-inch two-tone wheels with a five-spoke design perfectly complement the car's angular styling, enhancing its overall dynamic presence.
Beyond aesthetics, the new Elantra has undergone a substantial growth spurt. It is 55 millimeters (2.16 inches) longer than the previous model, with 30 millimeters (1.18 inches) of that increase specifically allocated to the wheelbase, now measuring 2750 millimeters (108.2 inches). This extended wheelbase significantly enhances interior roominess. The vehicle is also 30 millimeters (1.18 inches) wider, reaching 1855 millimeters (73 inches), and slightly taller at 1425 millimeters (56 inches). The addition of a quarter window behind the rear doors not only refines the car's profile but also visually accentuates its larger footprint. These expanded dimensions contribute to a more spacious cabin, allowing the new Elantra to rival the interior volume of many midsize sedans.
Refined Interior and Advanced Powertrains
The cabin of the 2027 Elantra has been completely revamped, elevating its appeal to that of a higher-segment vehicle. A central feature is Hyundai's next-generation Android-based Pleos infotainment system, which comes standard with a 12.9-inch touchscreen and offers an upgrade option to a larger 14.6-inch display. Crucially, the design retains a sensible balance between digital interfaces and physical controls, ensuring ease of use. The traditional Hyundai logo on the steering wheel has been replaced by four dots, representing the Morse code for "H," a subtle yet modern design cue. The gear selector has been relocated behind the steering wheel, creating additional space in the center console for practical features like dual wireless charging pads. Ambient lighting in the door panels and dashboard, along with a plush, cushion-like pattern on the passenger side of the dashboard, further enhance the sense of luxury and sophistication.
Under the hood, the South Korean Avante lineup introduces enhanced engine options. A naturally aspirated 2.0-liter gasoline engine now delivers 147 horsepower, marking a 25 horsepower increase over its predecessor. For those seeking greater efficiency, a 1.6-liter hybrid variant is available, offering a slightly boosted output of 155 horsepower. This hybrid model incorporates Hyundai's latest regenerative braking technology and features a new "Stay Mode," which allows the vehicle's battery to power the air conditioning and infotainment system while stationary, mimicking a feature commonly found in electric vehicles. The new Avante is slated for release in South Korea in the third quarter of this year, with the global Elantra model expected to follow in 2027, including the future introduction of a high-performance N version.
