2021 BMW Alpina B7 xDrive: A Luxury Performance Sedan Evaluation

The 2021 BMW Alpina B7 xDrive, a high-performance luxury sedan, is currently available for auction. This particular model, boasting 82,000 miles, combines a potent 600-horsepower twin-turbo V8 engine with a lavish interior, including the Executive Lounge and Luxury Rear Seating packages, and a panoramic Sky Lounge roof. Despite its higher mileage, recent comprehensive maintenance in 2026, addressing key components like air springs, control arms, and the transfer case, adds significant appeal. The current bidding stands at $23,456, with an estimated fair market value between $45,000 and $55,000, underscoring the delicate balance between mileage, features, and upkeep for such sophisticated vehicles.

This Alpina B7, finished in Black Sapphire Metallic, features 21-inch Alpina wheels with new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, adaptive LED headlights, and an array of premium options. Its luxurious rear cabin, equipped with twin power seats, entertainment screens, and massaging functions, sets it apart. The comprehensive service history, including major repairs in 2026, mitigates concerns often associated with high-mileage luxury cars. While the original sticker price was over $161,000, its current valuation reflects depreciation but also the sustained appeal of its unique blend of speed and comfort. Potential buyers are advised to review service records and consider a pre-purchase inspection.

Valuation and Market Dynamics of the 2021 Alpina B7

The market value of a 2021 BMW Alpina B7 xDrive is heavily influenced by its mileage. Data from Classic.com indicates that models with significantly lower mileage, around 24,000, fetched approximately $68,500 in September 2026. In contrast, similar vehicles with roughly 77,000 miles are listed by dealers in the range of $50,590 to $50,990. Kelley Blue Book's Fair Purchase Price in August 2026 was $56,110. This particular B7, with its 82,000 miles, naturally falls towards the lower end of this spectrum. However, the recent comprehensive service in 2026, which addressed several high-cost components, plays a crucial role in enhancing its appeal and value. Despite the higher mileage, the investment in fresh repairs, coupled with its Executive Lounge specification, positions its fair value likely between $45,000 and $55,000, with $50,000 being a probable estimate.

The current auction bid of $23,456, with seven days remaining, is considerably below the anticipated market value, suggesting competitive bidding is yet to unfold. The extensive list of features, including massaging front and rear seats, a head-up display, and the Sky Lounge roof, makes this Alpina B7 a highly optioned example. The meticulous maintenance record for 2026, detailing replacements of front air springs, control arms, rear brakes, and a fuel injector, addresses potential longevity concerns often associated with high-mileage complex luxury cars. This detailed service history makes it a more secure investment compared to lower-mileage vehicles with undocumented or deferred maintenance. Prospective buyers should thoroughly examine these records to appreciate the extent of the recent upkeep, which significantly contributes to its overall worth and reliability despite its mileage.

The Distinctive Attributes and Appeal of the Alpina B7

The BMW Alpina B7 xDrive distinguishes itself as a unique fusion of exhilarating performance and opulent comfort, built upon the foundation of BMW's long-wheelbase 7 Series. Alpina's masterful enhancements include a more potent twin-turbo V8 engine, delivering 600 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque, coupled with bespoke suspension tuning and distinctive Alpina styling elements. This meticulous engineering transforms the standard 7 Series into a luxury express capable of supercar-level speeds without compromising the limousine-like comfort. Its 'long-legged' character, optimized for effortless high-speed cruising, sets it apart from BMW's more track-focused M performance models, offering a refined yet exhilarating driving experience that is uniquely Alpina.

For discerning buyers, high-mileage examples of the Alpina B7 present a compelling value proposition. A vehicle that originally commanded a price exceeding $160,000 can now be acquired for roughly one-third of its initial cost. However, the sophisticated nature of its systems, such as the air suspension and transfer case, necessitates a thorough understanding of its maintenance history. Models with recent significant repairs, like the one in question with new air springs, a new transfer case, and fresh tires, often represent a safer acquisition than low-mileage counterparts where critical maintenance might have been postponed. These recent investments in high-cost components alleviate immediate concerns about expensive repairs, allowing the new owner to enjoy the Alpina B7's remarkable blend of luxury and performance with greater peace of mind, provided the service records are meticulously reviewed.

Rivian's Electric Delivery Van Outperforms R1S and R1T in Q3 Sales

In the third quarter of 2026, Rivian's Commercial Van (RCV) achieved remarkable sales figures, surpassing the combined sales of its R1S SUV and R1T pickup. This electric van not only emerged as the leading electric van in America but also secured the fourth position among all electric vehicles sold in the U.S. market. The success of the RCV highlights Rivian's growing influence in the electric vehicle sector, particularly in the commercial segment, driven significantly by its strategic partnership with Amazon.

Rivian, an electric vehicle manufacturer, has experienced substantial growth since the initiation of its R1T electric pickup production in Normal, Illinois, in 2021. Within a span of five years, the company has transformed from an emerging EV startup into a well-established player, offering a diverse product line that includes the R1T pickup, R1S three-row SUV, the new R2 midsize SUV, and the Rivian Commercial Van (RCV), also known as the EDV. The RCV is currently exclusively available to fleet and business clientele.

During the third quarter of 2026, the RCV's sales dramatically outperformed expectations, registering 8,469 units sold between July and September. This represents an astonishing 220.9% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. This impressive performance positioned the RCV as the top-selling electric van in the American market, significantly outpacing competitors such as the Chevrolet BrightDrop (1,344 units), Mercedes-Benz eSprinter (396 units), and Ford E-Transit (184 units). Furthermore, the RCV's strong sales propelled it to become the fourth best-selling EV across all categories in the U.S., a remarkable achievement for a commercial vehicle.

Interestingly, the RCV's sales volume in Q3 2026 exceeded the combined sales of Rivian's flagship R1S and R1T models. While the R1S recorded 5,582 sales (a 31.8% decrease year-over-year) and the R1T sold 1,732 units (a 27.2% decrease year-over-year), their combined total of 7,314 units fell short of the RCV's individual sales by 870 units. This shift in sales dynamics suggests a robust demand for Rivian's commercial offerings, even as consumer demand for its lifestyle vehicles experiences a decline.

The overwhelming success of the RCV is largely attributed to a monumental contract with Amazon, which mandates Rivian to supply 100,000 electric vans by 2030. It is estimated that Rivian has already delivered approximately 50,000 vans to Amazon, with three years remaining to fulfill the rest of the order. Although Rivian's electric van became available to other commercial and fleet customers in 2023, the vast majority of sales continue to be driven by the Amazon partnership. The RCV is offered in two configurations: the short-wheelbase Delivery 500, starting at $79,900, and the long-wheelbase Delivery 700, priced from $83,900. Both models feature a front-mounted electric motor and an estimated range of around 160 miles. Future developments include a dual-motor all-wheel-drive version and a larger battery for extended range. This strong commercial performance underscores the critical role of strategic partnerships in bolstering Rivian's market position and revenue streams.

2026 Audi A6: A New Benchmark in Luxury and Performance

The 2026 Audi A6 represents a significant evolution in the luxury sedan market, combining advanced engineering with sophisticated design. This review delves into its improved performance, luxurious interior, and the strategic packaging of its most desirable features, particularly the high-performance Sport Plus option.

Experience Unrivaled Elegance and Dynamic Driving in the New Audi A6

Unleashing the Full Potential: The Dynamic Capabilities of the 2026 Audi A6

When navigated through a challenging turn, the newly designed 2026 Audi A6 showcases the agility of a finely tuned sports car. Its updated torque-vectoring rear differential and optional rear-axle steering system expertly guide the vehicle's momentum around corners. With its high-grip summer tires firmly planted on the road and a newly developed sport suspension, the chassis feels incredibly stable. However, to fully experience this elevated level of athleticism, one must opt for the top-tier Prestige model, which unlocks the exclusive Sport Plus package. This package includes performance-oriented hardware and other premium features, positioning the new A6 as a luxurious, albeit costly, choice.

Enhanced Refinement and Power: A Deeper Look into the Audi A6's Upgrades

The latest internal combustion engine A6 is constructed upon Audi's innovative Premium Platform Combustion architecture, a foundation shared with the A5 models and the Q5 and SQ5 SUVs. Starting at a competitive price of $65,395 for the entry-level Premium trim, every version of the A6 now comes equipped with an array of standard luxury amenities and advanced safety technologies. Audi has also implemented additional sound-dampening measures, such as improved door seals, refinements to the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and foam-filled tires, all contributing to a quieter and more refined cabin experience. The previous four-cylinder engine options have been discontinued, making way for a more robust turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine. This powerplant now delivers an impressive 362 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, marking a significant increase of 27 horsepower and 37 pound-feet over its predecessor. With standard all-wheel drive and launch control, our luxury-focused test model accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in a swift 4.3 seconds, completing the quarter-mile in 12.9 seconds at 108 mph. The Sport Plus variant exhibited comparable acceleration times, indicating consistent performance across the range. Both models significantly outperform the previous A6 (4.7 seconds to 60 mph) while trailing the outgoing S6 (4.0 seconds). Furthermore, our more opulent test vehicle achieved an remarkable 38 mpg during highway fuel economy assessments, surpassing its EPA estimate by 9 mpg.

Sophisticated Evolution: Design and Interior Innovations of the New Audi A6

Maintaining a subtly refined aesthetic, the new A6's exterior design is distinctly Audi, bearing a strong resemblance to its predecessor. The latest updates subtly enhance the contours of its bumpers and flanks. While the optional black wheels and accents may slightly diminish some of the body's newly defined lines, the vehicle retains a commanding presence, especially from the rear. Apart from a 2.4-inch increase in length and a half-inch reduction in width, the exterior dimensions largely mirror the previous generation. Inside, the A6 now features Audi's cutting-edge "digital stage" interface, which includes a vibrant 11.9-inch driver display and a 14.5-inch touchscreen. This system boasts intuitive menus and comes standard with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Despite Audi's continued use of piano-black trim, which can be challenging to keep pristine, the cabin's ambiance is elevated by extensive ambient lighting, including unique directional elements beneath the windshield. An optional Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system offers up to 20 speakers, with two integrated into each front-seat headrest. A new panoramic glass roof, featuring six individually dimmable segments, floods the interior with natural light and significantly increases front headroom. The spacious rear seating remains comfortable for adults, and the trunk provides a generous 14 cubic feet of storage capacity.

Strategic Premiumization: Understanding the Tiered Feature Offerings of the A6

To access the most advanced features, customers will need to select at least the $69,295 Premium Plus trim, if not the $73,495 Prestige model. Audi explains this strategy is primarily aimed at simplifying model complexity. Desirable features such as the new head-up display, which for the first time allows for vehicle and infotainment settings adjustments, are exclusive to the Premium Plus trim and above. The same applies to four-zone automatic climate control (three-zone is standard), the 10.9-inch passenger display, and the S Line Black Optic package with its more aggressive bumper styling. For amenities like soft-close doors or the exceptional massaging sport seats, which are part of both the Sport Plus bundle and the opulent $9400 Audi Exclusive Design package featuring tan and navy two-tone upholstery, the Prestige trim is required. Similarly, only the top two A6 trims receive animated LED headlights with customizable daytime running light signatures, while the equally adjustable OLED taillights are a Prestige-exclusive feature.

Mastering the Road: Driving Dynamics and Suspension Innovations of the A6

During our test drives, Audi exclusively provided Prestige models, which are equipped with standard adaptive dampers and height-adjustable air springs. These features lower the ride height by 0.8 inches in Normal mode compared to the Premium and Premium Plus trims. The air springs can further lower the vehicle by up to 0.4 inches in Dynamic mode or raise it by 0.8 inches at speeds up to 53 mph, even via voice commands. (The Premium and Premium Plus trims come with coil springs and passive dampers.) The third suspension option is the Sport suspension, which is part of the Prestige-exclusive $5850 Sport Plus package. This package effectively transforms the A6 into a quasi-S6, a model that is now essentially discontinued. Along with firmer coils and passive dampers that also lower the car by 0.8 inches, this package includes black-painted 21-inch wheels (19-inch are standard, 20-inch are optional), summer tires, the advanced rear differential, rear-wheel steering with up to five degrees of articulation, the sportier S Line exterior styling, red-painted brake calipers, and a squared-off steering wheel. All A6 trims benefit from enhanced variable-ratio steering, delivering sharper responses than previous models, though still lacking extensive feedback from the tires. With the air-spring setup, the A6 mimics the ride quality of a larger A8 sedan, gliding down the road with controlled smoothness. While still handling well, this configuration emphasizes mass and refinement. In Comfort mode, the interior becomes remarkably quiet (a mere 67 decibels and 20 sones at 70 mph), effectively isolating occupants from the outside world.

Performance Refined: The Impact of the Sport Plus Package on Driving Experience

Conversely, the A6 equipped with the Sport Plus package exhibits significantly enhanced agility and responsiveness when driven aggressively on winding roads. Although it remains a substantial luxury sedan with a smooth engine that requires some effort to fully unleash, it transforms into a much more engaging driver's car in Sport Plus mode. Surprisingly, our tests also revealed it to be slightly quieter at speed. The benefits of powerful brakes, superior grip, and improved maneuverability are substantial. We recorded an impressive 0.97 g of skidpad grip with the sport-tuned model, compared to 0.87 g for the air-spring setup on all-season tires. Furthermore, the Sport Plus model's braking distance from 70 mph was a remarkable 146 feet, a significant 25 feet shorter than its counterpart. The ride quality over Southern California's mountainous roads was firm but never harsh, and even on the challenging frost-heaved and pothole-ridden roads of the Midwest, the sportiest A6 maintained its composure. While the Prestige's standard adaptive setup offers significantly more compliance in its softer settings, we found the Sport Plus's coil springs to be more comfortable than the air springs in their stiffest Dynamic mode.

The Verdict: Weighing the Value of the Refined 2026 Audi A6

With an entry price only $1500 higher than last year's base V-6 model, the appeal of the new A6 has grown even stronger, especially with Audi's mid-year update. This update introduced a new steering wheel with physical scrolling wheels replacing the previous capacitive sliders, alongside updated graphics and enhanced functionality for the infotainment system. Our primary desire is that the best-driving version did not ultimately exceed the outgoing S6's base price of $77,195. At least these significant improvements are not tied to a subscription model.
